Description of Facility: This 40-acre park provides a public boat ramp, a 450-foot fishing pier, paved parking areas, restrooms with showers, RV camper hook-ups, areas for tent camping, extensive picnic facilities, two playgrounds, volleyball nets, a lighted ball field, lighted tennis courts and a swimming area. A park ranger lives on the park premises, and provides security and some maintenance.

Annual Events: The park hosts an annual “Get Hooked on Fishing Day” on the last Saturday of June. The annual “Christmas on Caddo” fireworks extravaganza is held in the park each December. RV and tent camping is available, sites with electric $12.00, Non-electric sites $6.00, additional charges for extra sleeping units. A $2.00 sewage disposal fee is charged for campers not staying overnight in the park. Reservations are not accepted.

Keithville Community Park

Keithville Community Park is located on the campus of Keithville Elementary Middle School on US-171, nearby to Caddo Parish’s boundary with DeSoto Parish. The address of the school is 12201 Mansfield Road.

Description of Facility: The Parish of Caddo entered into a long-term lease with the Caddo Parish School Board at the close of 2001 to develop a community park for use of the residents of Keithville after school hours and on weekends. The park area already contains a double tennis court and backstops for a couple of ball fields. The Parish of Caddo constructed a new entrance and parking area to serve the park, and a walking/jogging trail around the 8-acre site. Restrooms for the park will be constructed by the end of 2003, and future plans include a play system, picnic pads with grills and ball field improvements.

Times of Operation: The Park is open to the Keithville community after school hours (after 3:00 p.m.), on weekends, and on days that school is not in session. During school hours, the park is reserved for use by students of Keithville Elementary Middle School. All unmanned Caddo Parish parks have a 9:00 p.m. curfew, and reopen at 6:00 a.m. each morning.

Description of Facility: Located three miles west of Blanchard, the 160-acre nature park contains a pine-oak-hickory forest accessible by five miles of nature trails. The park has an interpretive building, a pavilion with restrooms, a handicapped-accessible trail, and several naturalists who provide information and interpretation to park visitors. Nature oriented programs are available on an appointment basis.

Annual Events: Special events are scheduled on a regular basis and advertised through the local media. An annual environmental day camp, called Earth Camp, is offered each summer in the park.

Park Eddie D. Jones

Driving directions: Take I-20 to Industrial Loop and head south. Turn right onto Woolworth Road and continue until the intersection with LA-525 (Colquitt Road). Turn right and travel to LA-169. Turn left at LA-169 and travel 1.1 miles to LA-789. Turn left on LA-789 and travel 2 miles to Mike Clark Road. Turn right on Mike Clark Road (next to Macedonia Baptist Church) and follow road to visitor center next to silo.

Description of Facility: Eddie D. Jones Park opened in March, 2003. The park is managed as an adventure park, with over 10 miles of rugged mountain biking trails, over five miles of horseback riding trails, and a 1 ½ mile hiking trail. A park ranger is on duty during open hours to help orient visitors and provide assistance. Restrooms and a small visitor center are maintained by the parks department.

Visitors are advised to come prepared for a wilderness type experience. Proper clothing, insect repellant and plenty of fluids to drink are recommended.
In addition to the trails maintained by the Parish of Caddo Parks and Recreation Department, the park is the future site of Chimp Haven, a 200-acre chimpanzee sanctuary that is being developed by the non-profit group known as Chimp Haven, Inc., and an 82-acre Veterans Cemetery that will be operated by the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs.

Times of Operation: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and
1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, closed New Year’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Hannah's Park

To get to the park, take Ellerbe Road south to Mt. Pleasant Avenue, just south of Leonard Road. The park is located on Oak Grove Lane off of Mt. Pleasant Avenue.

Description of Facility: Hannah’s Park is a 1 ½ acre park in the Mt. Pleasant Acres Subdivision off of Ellerbe Road. The park was developed to serve the Mt. Pleasant Acres community. It contains green space, a play system for children, a volleyball area and a small, covered picnic area. A basketball court will be added in 2003. To get to the park, take Ellerbe Road south to Mt. Pleasant Avenue, just south of Leonard Road. The park is located on Oak Grove Lane off of Mt. Pleasant Avenue. Please advise me if you need any additional information.

Description of Facility: Located on Fordney Bayou where it empties into Cross Lake, this 15-acre park provides two boat ramps, a 60-foot dock, a paved parking area, a handicapped-accessible fishing pier, handicapped-accessible restrooms, picnic tables with grills, a pavilion and two playgrounds. A large grass field provides a place for play, and a long peninsula along Fordney Bayou offers an attractive area for fishing and to the birdwatcher.
